WATER DROPPING DRILLS - Monday, April 27th
The U.S. Forest Service, based at Rocky Mountain Metropolitan Airport, is scheduled to conduct aircraft water-dropping drills at Great Western Reservoir on Monday, April 27. The exercises are expected to take place between 10:00 a.m. and 12:00 p.m., depending on wind conditions or any actual wildfire deployments.
The drill will involve aircraft picking up water and dropping it at targeted locations within the reservoir. Below is a photo of the high-capacity helicopters now used at the Rocky Mountain Metropolitan Airport. These helicopters have a 2,800-gallon capacity, significantly boosting initial attack capabilities along the Front Range.
